Tomorrow ends both another year and another decade.
It seems that just yesterday the millennium dawned and I spent New Year’s Eve wondering if our IT systems were going to kill us at midnight because of the Millennium Bug. Yet here it is December 30th, 2019 and the media is full of pundits analyzing the last two decades.
Being naturally sarcastic, reviewing the last twenty years reminds me of the dialogue between Felicity Shagwell and Austin Powers in the The Spy Who Shagged Me.
Felicity: “I want to see how the 70s and 80s turn out.”
Austin: “The 70s and the 80s? I’ve looked into it. There’s a gas shortage and A Flock of Seagulls. That’s about it.”
I’m sure the 2000s and 2010s offered more than the 1970s and 1980s, but I’m not sure what. What events do you consider the most important of the last twenty years?
